IPSS
Seven symptoms over the past month · IPSS and separate quality of life.
IPSS · Urinary symptoms
Principle
Quantify seven urinary symptoms over the past month: a total from 0 to 35. Quality of life is a separate response from 0 to 6, never added to the total.
Scope
Self-report questionnaire used here for adult men with lower urinary tract symptoms. The French version is a local adaptation of the English form, without claimed linguistic validation. Adapted from the AUA Symptom Index.
Interpretation limits
Seven valid responses are required for the total. A missing response never counts as zero. Quality of life may be entered independently; it changes neither the total nor its category. IPSS measures symptom severity without diagnosing the cause, prostatic enlargement or obstruction. It does not cover all urinary symptoms. The score alone does not determine treatment.
Formula and logic
IPSS = sum of the seven symptom responses (0–5 each). Separate quality of life: 0–6.
