Principle
Sum of the five Westley observations: 0–17.
Scope
Paediatric croup, usual context 6 months–6 years according to RCHT. Scoring system and classes from institutional table RCHT §2.5–2.6; no mixing with classifications starting severe at6. No neonatal extrapolation or diagnosis of another cause of stridor.
Interpretation limits
Quantification of croup severity. Signs of distress and clinical course take priority over the total; absence of loud stridor does not guarantee mild disease. No automatic prescription or discharge.
