EDIN — Prolonged neonatal pain
Preceding observation1–4h; five domains, no conflated threshold.
EDIN — Prolonged neonatal pain
Principle
Prolonged pain and discomfort in term or preterm newborns, pilot limited to 3 months. Each rating considers the preceding 1–4 hours.
Scope
Prolonged pain and discomfort in term or preterm newborns, pilot limited to 3 months. Each rating considers the preceding 1–4 hours.
Interpretation limits
EDIN does not assess pain from a brief procedure. The 2022 instructions and PDF grid disagree on age and threshold 5: this version retains ≤ 3 months and returns a total 0–15 without an automatic threshold or category. Know the preterm infant's usual behaviour; points may reflect discomfort. Both periods must be comparable; no instantaneous reassessment or proof of treatment efficacy. Locally reworded labels, not the official grid.
Formula and logic
Sum of explicit ratings for this observation, without imputation.
