DAN — Acute neonatal pain
Before, during and after a brief procedure; three domains0–10.
DAN — Acute neonatal pain
Principle
Brief acute procedural pain in term or preterm newborns, up to 3 months. Three observations: before, during and after the same procedure.
Scope
Brief acute procedural pain in term or preterm newborns, up to 3 months. Three observations: before, during and after the same procedure.
Interpretation limits
DAN does not measure prolonged pain. Face 0–4, limbs 0–3, voice 0–3; maximum 10. The scoring system covers intubation. No added treatment threshold or automatic class. Variation between phases describes observed signs; it does not prove efficacy of a preventive measure or treatment. Locally reworded labels, not the official grid.
Formula and logic
Sum of explicit ratings for this observation, without imputation.
