AIR — Adult appendicitis
Seven clinical and laboratory criteria; appendicitis probability.
Appendicitis Inflammatory Response Score
Principle
Sum of explicitly entered contributions; no default clinical value.
Scope
Suspected appendicitis; pilot restricted to adults ≥18 years. Original 2008 scoring corrected 2012, groups 0–4/5–8/9–12, distinct from the low-risk threshold 0–3 proposed in 2021.
Interpretation limits
The result stratifies clinical probability; even a low score does not exclude appendicitis and may require examination, monitoring and reassessment. No automatic diagnosis, imaging, intervention or discharge. Original classes corrected in 2012, without importing performance or the new 2021 low-risk threshold.
Formula and logic
Sum of explicit contributions, without prior rounding.
Interpretation
- 0–4
- Low probability
- 5–8
- Intermediate probability
- 9–12
- High probability
